P.N. Of Ordesa – Tail of Horse

Classical and popular excursion that visits the valley of Ordesa from the Meadow until the waterfall of Tail of Horse.

The National Park of Ordesa and Stray Mountain was declare in 1918. His surface comprises, in addition to the Valley of Ordesa, The cañon of Añisclo, The Throats of Escuain, the Circus of Pineta and the Macizo of the Stray Mountain.

Besides, it limits in the north with the Parc National give Pyrénées. By this reason have a big extension of terrain protected with numerous footpaths very marked and of diverse interest to visit.

The highest peak is the Stray Mountain with 3.348 metres. Together with the mountains that surround him form one of the calcareous peaks more representative of the Pyrenees. They are representative also the Fajas, vertical bluffs separated by narrow balconadas horizontal.

Also they are interesting the circuses glaciers that can visit: Pineta, Soaso, Cotatuero, etc. In some cases the vertical walls have clavijas that help us to surpass throw them off balance.

1. Tail of Horse

From the end of the parking of The Meadow (1.360 m) take a wide way to Soaso. The way goes in in a hayedo-abetal and goes through several small meadows.

We go through the oriel of the Waterfall of Arripas and go on down the track leaving to a side a detour that would carry us again to the Meadow. We follow going up and go through the waterfalls of the Cave and the one of the Narrow.

We leave backwards the hayedo and happen to a zone of pastizales and black pine. We arrive to the terracings of Soaso, where the rio Araza descends by several stairs of stone forming the famous waterfalls.

THE way arrives now to a flatter zone and herbosa: the circus of origin glacier of Soaso. From here we have a good sight of the macizo of the Stray Mountain.

Our way finishes in the cabecera of the Valley where finds the waterfall of the Tail of Horse (1.650 m; 7 km; 2 h).

The return will realise it by the same footpath that will carry us of turn to The Meadow of Ordesa (1.360 m; 14 km; 4 h).
