The macizo of the Montgrí is a surgimiento of rock calcaria formed by one fails oriented of east to west. His creation is sincrónica to the one of the Pyrenees. Often it finds intrusions magmáticas of red or brown quartz.

By his elevations stand out the beaks of the Muntanya d’Ullà (308 m), the Montgrí (301 m) and the Montplà (311 m), near to Torroella, and the Tower Moratxa (218 m) and Rock Maura (226 m) in the near slope to’l Estartit. Between both blocks find the dunes of sand that come from of the gulf of Roses and were fixed to finals of the century XIXpor the engineer Primitiu Artigas.
