Congost Of Mont-rebei

The Congost of Mont-rebei is a place that forms part of the Partial Natural Reservation of the Noguera Ribagorçana-Mont Rebei. Located in the limit between the Drop Ribagorça in the west and the Pallars Jussà and the Noguera in the east.

By the side suroriental, belongs to the municipal term of Àger, of the Noguera, by the north-oriental, the one of Saint Esteve of the Sarga, Pallars Jussà. By the western side, is the municipal term of Viacamp and Literà, of the Drop Ribagorça.

It treats of a place of undoubted ecological value for the wild fauna that houses, between which fits to stand out the birds rapaces, and by the beauty of his landscape agreste. It has a big appeal for climbers and espeleólogos, that find excellent walls and some cave like the Colomera.

Can arrive in road from the Bridge of Montañana and of Saint Esteve of the Sarga in the north, and from Àger the south. It exists a public parking no watched situated in the plain constituted in the oriental bank north of the desfiladero. There is a barrack of information and in summer do didactic talks.

In the side catalan, the go through the desfiladero does entirely by a way excavated of the rock, and in some points by tunnel. It fits to remember that this way situates to big altitude and does not have of rail, by what is not recommended for the boys or those that suffer vértigo. South, the way wins altitude and visits the skirts of the mountain until divisar the embalse.

The desfiladero of Mont-rebei constitutes, without place to doubts, one of the natural spaces more singular of the Prepirineos, so much from the point of view paisajístico, when being the only big desfiladero free of infrastructures, as by his big biodiversidad.

The flora and the vegetation divide in two big zones: the Mediterranean vegetation of the slope south, where the leading are the carrascas, the thickets and the dry meadows, and the vegetation eurosiberiana of the slope north, inhabited by robledales. They stand out diverse endemic species like the exceptional Petrocoptis montsicciana, as well as of other rupicolous species like the crown of king (Saxifraga longifolia) or the ear of bear (Ramonda myconi). Also there are species relictuales, surviving of other periods like the there is (Fagus sylvatica), or also species that inhabit thanks to the sustratos and the special microclimate of the desfiladero, like the encina coastal.

They inhabit several species faunísticas interesting. Inside the group of the birds abound the big birds rapaces own of the bluffs: the quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus), the alimoche (Neophron percnopterus), the common vulture (Gyps fulvus), the real eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), the falcon pilgrim ( Falco peregrinus), as well as the chova yellow (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) and red beak (Pyrrhocorax graculus) and the treparriscos (Tichodroma muraria). Between the mammals finds the common otter (Lutra lutra), the wildcat (Felis silvestris), the marten (Tuesday Tuesday), the roebuck (Capreolus capreolus), the mole (Talpa europaea) and numerous species of bats.

The route, that discurre in his whole by the province of Lleida,  begins in the parking that's that of information of The Masieta. To arrive to the point of start have two options:

1.- By the To2 exit Tárrega, afterwards until Balaguer by the C53, here take the C13 direction Tremp and to some 6km of TREMP, there is a detour to the left direction Policeman of Tremp that carries us direct until the Congost. This road is VERY narrow but with some spectacular sights. We have to happen Alsamora and afterwards already will find the indicator of the Parking of the congost, sees from the road.

2.- The same but in place to go to Tremp go on down Balaguer until Alfarrás afterwards the N230 until Benabarre. Here we go on down the right until the Pont of Muntanyana. Afterwards we take the road that goes to Tremp and to some 700 metres there is the detour that carries us direct to the parking of the congost. This distance is but long but with fewer curves.
