There are places like Chernóbil that wake up our curiosity and adventurous spirit in some occasions, but the true is that it is not too well the thing for precisely happen some days there. Nevertheless, there is animal that have a capacity of surprising adaptation as it is the case of the birds of Chernóbil, which have showed that even the main nuclear disaster of the history of the mankind is not rival for them.
Thanks to a study of the Upper Council of Scientific Investigations of Spain has showed that the birds that inhabit the zone of Chernóbil are achieving to adapt so that they achieve to expose to the radiation even during long terms without seeing affected.
This is much more curious of what seems, since until the moment did not know that it existed any type of wild animal that could adapt to this type of radiation, and thanks to this has been able to arrive to the conclusion that they are the birds that produce a main quantity of feomelanina through his feathers those that main problems present to the hour to expose to the radiation. This last data has been obtained of a publication of the magazine Functional Ecology, which belongs to the British Ecological Society.
To arrive to these conclusions, the Spanish team realised an analysis of 152 pertaining birds to 16 species that found located in eight concrete points that include inner zones of Chernóbil and others of his surroundings.
It proceeded to measure the levels of stress oxidativo, glutatión and the damages produced in the DNA through the samples of blood obtained. Also it proceeded to analyse them levels of pigments of melanin located in the feathers of said birds.
We do not forget that the birds that contain a main quantity of pigments have showed to be less resistant to the radiation, whereas the glutatión, an antioxidant that proceeds of amino acids, what does is to help in the protection of the cells, by what facilitates the exhibition to the radiation.
Thanks to all these proofs could observe that the glutatión increased in the case of those birds that were exposed to a main radiation, whereas at the same time it produced a decrease of the damages produced in the DNA as well as a lower stress oxidativos.
The birds that produced a main quantity of feomelanina found feebler physically in addition to that could check an increase of the stress oxidativo, a main damage in his DNA and even some levels of glutatión lower.
