Glacier of Arolla
This summer were in the Alpes Swiss and realise the Tour of the Cervino. This tour is a route circulate of more than 150 kilometres to the rededor of this wonderful mountain situated just in the border between Switzerland and Italy.
Along the route cross two Glaciers, The high Glacier of Arolla and the Glacier of the Theodulpass. The first carries us from Switzerland to Italy and the second happens us of Italy to Switzerland.
The Glacier of Arolla has a length of 4 kilometres of long (data of 2005) and this situated in Catón of Valais. In 1973 taenia an area of 13.17 square kilometres. In reality the Glacier of Arolla this composed by two glaciers: the Glacier du Mont Collon (situated in the top) and the High Glacier of Arolla.
Cross the high Glacier of Arolla was all an experience, we never had had the opportunity to walk on a glacier so we had our doubts in this regard. After placing them the crampones and of a torrential rain which almost does us desist of the attempt, decide to happen.
The experience was unforgettable, all an adventure. The difficulty is minimum if they take the necessary averages: crampones and a lot of attention with the grades cracks that cross it but that do not have any difficulty.
In the peak, the seen on the Italian part are esplendidas.
The High Glacier of Arolla is really a very amused step in the Tour of Cervino. For the people without experience is a way to initiate in the step of glaciers, because it does not have any difficulty. The way to be followed it is perfectly indicated with some white and blue marks. Even the cracks are signposted. During the route see perfectly the training of the glacier and his distinct parts.
The last stretch, after happening a zone of cracks and of material of drag, is the one who has main slope, but in no case presents difficulty. When arriving to the Coll of Collon the seen to both sides are spectacular and an idílico lake welcomes us Italian territory, where the snow disappears and gives step to zone of tarteras, some that another nevero and a fast descent to the shelter.
The glacier of Theodulpass does not have at all that see. The civilisation has turned it into a track of ski that works so much in winter as in summer, by what go down by him gives you the feeling to be walking by some simple tracks of ski. Although, as good glacier, has his zone of cracks, of fractionation,… but go, that is not the same.
They are two stages of the Tour of the Cervino different that put us in contact with the snow in summer and initiate us to the go through glaciers.
