The National Park of Timanfaya was declared National Park on 9 August 1974
“The day 1 September 1730, between the nine and the ten of the night, the earth opened in Timanfaya, to two leguas of Yaiza…and an enormous mountain raised of the breast of the earth», according to the evidence of the rector Lorenzo Curbelo. The island transformed completely. Ten villages remained buried (Tingafa, White Mountain, Maretas, Santa Catalina, Jaretas, San Juan, Crag of Palms, Testeina and Rodeos) and during six years the lava extended by the zone south covering a chamber of the island and filling the vegas near of volcanic ashes. In 1824 again they begin the eruptions in Timanfaya. They produced terrible hambrunas and good part of the population saw forced to emigrate. Since the landscape has transformed thanks to the agricultural technicians of crop on lapilli (rofe) volcanic that the conejeros employ to attract the humidity of the alisios.
The National Park of Timanfaya was declared National Park on 9 August 1974. It has more than 25 volcanos, being some emblematic, such as the Mountain of Fire, Mountain Rajada or the Boiler of the Corazoncillo. Still it presents volcanic activity, existing heat sources in the surface that achieve the 100–120°C and 600°C to 13 metres of depth.
This volcanic habitat finds in the first stages of the ecological succession (in total find some 180 vegetal species), by what is an excellent place for the study of the processes of colonisation and succession.
In 1993, UNESCO awarded him the qualification of Reservation of the Biosphere to all the island. Also it is Zone of Special Protection for the Birds (1994).

In this stretch the footpath this desdibujado in some points but suffices with following the line of the coast not to lose .
To the 45 minutes of trek and 2,20 Km arrive to the track that heads to beach of the Step. Once achieved the track that carries to the beach will find a signal that indicates us the footpath to be followed between malpaís. To the 5 minutes will arrive to the edge of the sea where find cliffs formed by the coladas volcanic. We follow the way where abound volcanic bombs, posaderos of seagulls and will happen the zones of The Caletón, The Playitas, the resaltes of the Drop of the Crabs, The Three Tips, etc.
To the hour of trek see the first stretches of Pahoe-hoe that announce us the arrival to the beach of the Cochino. The Pahoe-hoe is a type of fluent lava of smooth surface or with some rugosidades called cordadas.
To 1:45 minutes of trek and 7 K.m Arrive to the Beach of the Cochino. The Beach of the Cochino is a zone of rocky beach and zone of callaos. Other species that find presents in all the route are the hedgehog moruno (Atelerix algirius), the perenquén (Tarentola angustimentalis) or the lizard of would do (Gallotia atlantica), as well as the rabbit (Orictulugus cuniculus)
When finalising the track, will go up one by a small rocky slope surrounded by a vegetation formed by tabaibas bitter (Euphorbia regis-jubae) and numerous líquenes, between which stands out the orchilla, exploded in the past for the obtaining of dye.
Leaving backwards the slope and direct us to the crater of the Volcano after 1,5 Km. Of trek and to some 500 metres on the level of the mar. From this point some impressive sights on the boiler and all his crater. We can observe exemplary of bejeque (Aeonium lancerottense), navel of Venus (Umbilicius horizontalis), gamonas (Asphodelus aestivus).
Going up the walls rightwards, the panoramic that offers us is spectacular, eastwards will contemplate the Malpaís of the Crown and the coast, and to the west Órzola. In the skirts Southwest of the Volcano, in direction to Máguez, will see one of the best examples of aljibe of the island, with a volume of 900 m3 and surface for collected of water of 9.600 square metres.
In the last stretch is necessary a small grinpada. After her we will have arrived to the point more álgido of our route: 600 metres on the level of the sea and 2 Km. In roughly an hour of camita.
The return realises by the same footpath.
7. White mountain
Two hundred metres after exceeding the last house of White Stain by the road that carries to the Timanfaya, goes out to the right a small road. Justo in the same detour goes out a track of earth that will drive us to the parking of the start of the footpath.

8. Turn to the Round Beak
Footpath that surrounds the Round Beak, by ways used traditionally by herds of goats. During the footpath will have interesting seen of the macizo of the Ajaches, the zone of White Beach and the island of Fuerteventura.
Splitting of the square of Femés (380 m. Of altitude) takes a track rightwards that goes out from the same square of the church in upward sense to the regulatory tank of the network of supply, that drives to the backside of said tank (410 m. Of altitude). From this point observes a beautiful panoramic of the Ravine of the Higuera until his mouth in the Beach of The Pozo.
To continuation, takes a footpath indicated with a marked poster with a point of orange colour. The footpath begins to descend levemente for later begin to rise until the 445 m. Of altitude until going out to the Degollada of Carlos, place in which it appreciates by first time an excellent sight of the zone of White Beach and Fuerteventura, as well as simultaneously to our backs follow observing the Ravine of the Higuera and prolongation until Port of Carmen if the visibility is good.
To the 30 minutes and us 2 kilometres of trek takes a detour to the left following the marks of orange colour. This detour, takes a footpath of very easy distance by a cut semi-levelled in the expensive NW of Round Beak that turns until achieving the bottom of the Ravine of the Casita to the 3.80 kilometres and 50 minutes of trek (255 m. Of altitude).
Rising from there will arrive to the Shelter of the Aljibe in which it still exists an abrevadero for the goats.
The footpath now situates us in the crossing that drives to the Muzzle of the Loma of the Pozo or as it is the case of this distance again to the farmyards of goats situated in the high of Femés, previous descent to the Ravine of the Higuera. From here it begins a continuous promotion of rampas with slopes of marked inclination, but of an enormous visual wealth given the magnificiencia geological of the Macizo of the Ajaches in this zone.
It finalises the route descending again by the start of the route from the tank of water until the Beach of Femés.
9. Montañ Yellow - Beach of the Kitchen - The Funny
This footpath is a coastal route that joins Caleta of Tallow with Yellow Mountain, one of the geological trainings but elevated of The Funny.
The footpath goes through beaches of big interest, in which we will be able to enjoy of a good bathroom in his crystalline waters surrounded of a rich vegetation and fauna.
To arrive to The Funny have to take a ship that goes out from Órzola all the days to the 10, 12 and 17 h., expanding the schedule between the 1 of Julio and on 30 September until the 18:30 h.
After arriving to Caleta of Tallow, village of an important activity pesquera, will leave to the South by the sand, to go on down the coast until arriving to Yellow Mountain.
We can have the luck to observe a rich avifauna, composed by seagulls argénteas (Larus cachinnans), pardelas cenicientas (Calonctris diomedea), petreles of Bulwer (Bulweria bulwerii) and other species, in addition to the plants like the balancón (Traganum moquinii) and the salty white (Polycarpea nivea), able to survive in the extreme conditions of the salinity and aridez of this coastal zone.
After 5 kilometres and an hour of walked, arrive to Beach Cooks. A rincón spectacular under the Yellow Mountain of 172 metres of height. Crystalline waters, golden sand, in summary ones of the rincones but magic of all the Canary Islands.
10. Route of Tremesana
The route of Tremesana passes in the National Park of Timanfaya in the beautiful island of Lancelot. In some two kilometres of distance visits a majestuoso landscape of volcanic forms.
The route is organised by the Centre of Visitors of White Stain of the National Park of Timanfaya and has guide that realises an explanation of the volcanic trainings that find as well as of the origin of the park and of the eruptions that caused it. They offer eight free squares all the Mondays, Wednesday and Friday and is necessary to reserve previously through the pagina web of the National Park (https://www.reservasparquesnacionales.es/real/parquesnac/usu/html/inicio-reserva-oapn.aspx?cen=6&act=%201). If we have not been able to realise the reservation through the site, can present us in the centre of the park to first hour of the morning with the end to inscribe us in a list of wait which will allow us participate in this route in the case that there is low of last hour.
The eruptions of Timanfaya became between 1730 and 1736. The seismic activity had a new episode eruptivo of three months in 1824. The more than 5.000 hectares of sea of lavas of Timanfaya owe in his elder splits to the eruptions of the 18th century. A descomunal crack (split of the terrestrial soil) of some twenty kilometres brought achieve a vomit of coladas volcanic continued that sepultó numerous populated.
The travesía by Tremesana allows to observe the lava, the malpaís, and the cordajes more rugosos of "pahoehoe" conviven between immense stock exchanges of volcanic ash. The variety of materials, melted like an alone piece exposes under the hard climatic conditions will find with tabaibas, bitter and sweet, and always calls the attention the presence of the líquen colonising the lavas of malpaís.
Along the route will have the possibility of adentrarnos in a volcanic tube.
Leaving backwards the mountains of María Hernández and Loved, the caminante will enter of full in a postcard of Mars. Encarando Boiler Rajada and Mountain Rajada, the stage return in crisol of forms and colours: a sea of lavas entremezclado with volcanic ashes, malpaís, cordajes and the ochre and red mountains compose an only photography.
In spite of the hard conditions of the territory checks the activity of the man in the zone. The immense stock exchanges of volcanic ash have the peculiarity to concentrate the humidity. So although apparently it can result impossible, the field of lava is fertile. If The Geria, surrounding space to Timanfaya, concentrates the main plantation of vineyard of the island, here, in full mountains of the Fire, the riada of higueras, morals and guayaberos populates the valley of ashes.
In the middle of the lunar landscape arise the paseros. With appearance of ovens and built with volcanic stone his ceilings received the fruit until it dried for his back transport to Yaiza or Uga. We achieve the mountain Tremesana. Looking north guesses Timanfaya, the tourist centre.
The organisation of the park commissions to carry us in a mini van from the centre of visitors until the start of the footpath and of turn to the once finalised centre the route.
It fits to stand out that it is of forced cumplimineto the use of suitable footwear. People are sandalias or footwear on foot discovered will be automatically invited to not realising the route.
Finally, a special quotation to the guides of the park that with his know do and explanations will do us visit these places of the most pleasant way
11. Boiler of The Ravens
The crater of the volcano of the Raven, situated between the National Park of Timanfaya and the Geria treats of a volcano of dimensions rather reduced if we take like comparative reference the half size of the volcanos of the island, but however the boiler or crater is proportionally big and of walls arriscadas, finding his bottom to more than 15 m underneath of the external terrain in that it assent the volcano.
According to the history vulcanológica, the first volcano in opening was the known today to popular level with the name of The Boiler of the Ravens, by this zone began the eruptions of Timanfaya, in the year 1730 and that perduraron in the time at all more and at all less than 6 years, covering a third part of the island by the materials issued by the volcanos.
The crater has a marked elliptical form cone 369 m of length on his main axis, in direction And.-W. And some 200 m. In the axis N.-S. The edge of his crater is formed by a singing ruiniforme and his maximum depth round the 90 m. The entrance in the boiler realises by his extreme N., by a narrow rocky porthole some 20 m. Elevated above his bottom. In the same have practised works of collected of picón (lapilli) with agricultural ends.
From the road of The Geria-Tinajo (T2), l cross the division of terms of Aunts and Tinajo, signposted clearly in the road, gives gone in in the natural park of the volcanos. From this same point has start the way, although it results better to park in an explanada situated some metres more advance (336 m).
Take, to the left of the road a way that directs to the volcanic cone. After situating us without difficulty to the foot of the same follow the outline of the boiler in time sense. A footpath visits it and allows to give access to the rocky portico that gives access to the interior of the crater. To go back to the starting point will go out of the crater and will take the footpath that following the base of the talud connects with the way that have been still in the approximation to the volcano.
It is possible to lengthen a bit more the excursion, bordeando the mountain entirely in sense anti schedule.
12. Beach of the Shells
The footpath begins in Caleta of the Tallow, taking the track that carries to The Mareta, in soft promotion during some 1700 metres, until arriving to the flat of The Mareta, between The Mojón and The Needles.
From the crossing of The Mareta can see the examples of aprovechamiento of the terrain in crops and aljibes. In the Flat, ancient ways and Coa into disuse, but even visible while it advances his regeneration, can confuse our route, by have to be it attentive to the signaling and to the geographic references. We have to go down, turning slightly rightwards and afterwards to the left in “a that”, until arriving, in hardly 150 metres, to an ancient track cut by a cord of stones.
We will take the track leftwards for bordear The Needles, leaving this volcanic building to our right, and with the reference of the islote of Clear Mountain at the front.
Left backwards The Mareta, and after a brief rise of 1 Km, the way goes down to the Flat of The Drop of the Livestock, following the main track. This descent offers a panoramic only of Mountain Bermeja, with his characteristic reddish colour and at the end the islotes of Clear Mountain and Alegranza.
We will ignore the way that goes out to the left and that carries to the Muzzle of the Estribas, going on down the main track, that vira slightly to the right. To some 500 m of this crossing will find the aparcabicis of the Drop of the Livestock. From this point will go on down the track until arriving in some 700 metres to the crossing with the track that adentra in the Island in a northeasterly direction and bordea Mountain Bermeja by the interior. We will take this crossing rightwards, following during 1,4 km the track.
In this point incorporates from the way that carries to the beach of The Shells. We follow straight and in hardly a kilometre will arrive again to the sea, very near already of the Beach of the Amber. From this point a senda peatonal carries to Majapalomas. We will go on down the main track, that turns some 90º to the right, and that in some 200 metres arrives to the aparcabicis of the beach of the Amber. The way follows parallel to the beach to the end of this, where it is necessary to turn again 90º to the right to take the track that carries to Pedro Beard and The Mareta.
Along 1,5 Km will find several ways that incorporate to the main, but that we have to avoid following a line more or less north / south until arriving to the crossing that allows to take the variant to Pedro Beard. The main route takes the crossing rightwards, bordeando to half height The Needles. After a brief and pronounced promotion, will follow during something more than 3,5 km between rises and descents until the Flat of The Mareta, where will be able to observe closely the aljibe of The Watered and the cultured plots that saw of far to the start of the day.
Happened the aljibe will take again the way of the left, that is by which begin the route and that goes down to Caleta of the Tallow, offering an only sight with the Bluffs of Famara at the end. The Variant to Pedro Beard allows to visit this core of population. From the crossing of the track that carries to The Mareta, takes the way leftwards that goes down to the mar.
